Prior to her husband’s passing, Helen had not managed her home’s maintenance, so an offer for an emergency repair plan she received through a partnership between HomeServe’s Service Line Warranties of Canada and the City of Hamilton in 2018 seemed like an answer to her problems. She knew her home was nearly 50 years old, and she needed a way to address any maintenance problems that were sure to develop.
“My husband could do anything, so when he passed away, the offer was a lifesaver,” she said. “I feel better because I can call them.”
The partnership between the city and SLWC offered Helen peace of mind with emergency repair plans that would provide her quick access to a reliable tradesperson who would come to her home. In addition, any repairs would be covered up to the benefit amount, shielding her from the cost of an emergency repair.
“I’m a widow on a fixed pension,” Helen said.
She enrolled in emergency repair plans to protect her water and sewer service lines that connect her home to the municipal systems and her in-home plumbing. Helen was glad she had done so when a faulty drain line caused a leak under her bathtub.
“Pro Flow came out and replaced the whole pipe,” she said. “They had to go through the bedroom wall, because it was hard to get to, and they worked really hard, so I didn’t have to do drywall (repairs).”
Helen saved hundreds on the repair.
More recently, she noticed another issue with her plumbing, this time in the kitchen.
“I came downstairs that morning and, in front of the sink, the floor was soaking wet,” she said. “The drain had worn out.”
The drain line between her sink and the floor had developed a leak overnight, and Helen was anxious to get it fixed before the leaking water caused damage to her home. SLWC’s network contractor Pro Flow came to the rescue yet again, arriving at her home that very afternoon for the emergency repair.
“I will definitely recommend Pro Flow to anyone requiring plumbing service,” Helen said. “(The technician) Shawn was very efficient and personable. I appreciate them fitting me in short notice.”
Shawn made quick work of the emergency repair and cleaned up after himself. Helen used her sink again that day and saved hundreds of dollars on a necessary repair through her SLWC plan.
“The two times I called Service Line Warranties, I got prompt service,” she said. “The people they sent were amazing and it is a load off my mind that I do not have to shell out thousands of dollars for a repair. I am a widow on my own, and you do not know, when you go to a company, whether they are going to rip you off or not. I do not have to worry about that – you took care of everything. I recommended SLWC to several people. I cannot say one bad thing about them.”
